I enjoy creating “jewellery”, except that usually it doesn’t incorporate jewels, gems or precious metals. So I prefer to say that I make adornments. I still consider these body decorations to be precious because of the time, effort and skill applied to the materials. In addition, I like to think that because they are generally made with natural fibres/fabrics, and recycled or salvaged items, that the value is increased because no additional harm has been done to the environment or humankind. The ingredients are still “mined” in a way – it is just that it is me who rummages through a thrift store, disassembles small machines, or sees the potential in a found object.
The adornments I make include brooches, necklaces, bracelets/bangles and earrings.
